The Weight of Water

Alright ladies, so I have been reading this crazy book. My mom assures me that the ending is worth every middle minute, but it is dragging on and on. Luckily its a fairly short read...if i could just concentrate long enough to get to the end. Unfortunately, i keep getting distracted by thrift stores and bars. ;)

How to Create a Basic Blogger Blog Post

OK! Here are the instructions - let me know if you have any trouble accessing the video, since this is the first time I've tried to do this - both creating the video and posting it to a blog.  So, the sound is a little quiet (must adjust the webcam mic next time), but I think it will show you the basics of how to get started.  I will post more as I get time showing how to do other things in the blog.  Enjoy!  ;-)

Asian Inspired Pulled Pork

1 pork butt roast

1/2 white onion

1/8 c. Teriyaki sauce

1/8 c. beer (lager, dark, whatever you like)

1/8 t. apple cider vinegar

meat tenderizer

garlic powder

5-Spice power

salt and pepper

Coat the bottom of a crockpot with largely chopped onion. Add pork roast. Poke holes in the roast (yes, I love this part - stabbing the roast with a long tonged fork . . . ). Add meat tenderizer, garlic powder, 5-Spice powder, salt and pepper (I just kind of coat the top surface of the roast with these - it looks like it's been heavily rubbed). Add Teriyaki sauce, beer, and apple cider vinegar (concentrate on getting liquid to the bottom of the pot, but sprinkle a little on the top too - just don't wash off all the seasoning). Cover the pot and cook on low for at least 8 hours.

The roast will fall apart - not really pulled. ;-) To increase flavor (and get rid of a little more of the fat), I take the pulled pork out of the crockpot and put it in a shallow baking pan, cover with more 5-Spice powder, and sprinkle with a little more Teriyaki. Bake this in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 or 15 minutes. Serve plain or as sandwiches on lightly toasted French bread. Chinese garlic sauce is really good if you want to kick it up a notch.

Welcome Post

OK girls - here's our new blog space! We can use it to talk about books we've read, recipes that are scrumptious, and anything else that we decide we want to share our ideas on. So, who will pick the first book for our book club?? (I put up a sample so you can see what our list might look like.)
